Awaken

” I feel so lost. Felt like I lost myself trying to please everyone.” This was a line I heard in a movie recently. A comment from a woman whose husband walked away after she spent years living for him – losing her identity and sense of self. Her friend responded, ” You’re not lost. You were sleep walking. You just woke up.” Have you ever had a season like that? Weeks, months, or even years passed by. Life threw you for a loop. The wind was knocked out of you – pain, confusion or fear became your bed partner. You were left numb for a long minute. Functioning on auto-pilot, you showed up just in body only. The truth is, you were not present in heart, mind or spirit. I’ve been there.

Years ago, myself and a group of friends gathered for an event. As we reflected on the year that had passed, a friend of mine made a comment that left me a bit disconcerted. She commented that she remembered nothing about the past year. It had been a tough one for her. What gripped me was the thought that I could ‘lose’ 365 days merely existing. Missing purpose, missing moments that I would not get back. I made a silent vow to myself never to allow myself to stay in those ‘ lost places’ for long periods. When I am tempted to ‘sleep’ through life, I choose to wake up.

‘Arise’

This may be your season right now. Possibly you have checked out mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Those around are merely seeing a watered down version of who you truly are. I believe in walking through and growing through our pain. However, there comes a time when we need to rise from the ash – rise from the surgery. To awaken to this gift of today. Recovery is necessary if we are to walk again. Breathe again. Live again. Time to reclaim, repossess the territories that have now become barren because of our absence.

That unique place that was carved out for you is still left empty. Someone needs you. Someone is waiting for you. Your God-given assignments are waiting. I speak healing and restoration over those parched and broken places. Come back to us. Don’t wait for the ‘pall bearers’. Awaken, arise, and occupy your space!!

I was pushed hard, so that I was falling, but the LORD helped me. The LORD is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation…I shall not die but live and tell what the Lord has done’. [Psalm 118: 13,14,17]

  1. I was blessed by this post. The part that really stood out for me was :

“That unique place that was carved out for you is still left empty. Someone needs you. Someone is waiting for you.”

    Thanks for sharing.

  2. Well written! So many times we ‘zone out’ but I’m glad for reminders like these that will jolt us back to reality so we can once again occupy the space waiting for us.
