Move With Me

Daily writing prompt
What are your favorite physical activities or exercises?

Sometimes I feel like walking until I reach the ‘end of me’. When the noise gets too much in my head. The thoughts swirl around like a tornado on a war path – I walk. As nature sings of God’s goodness, I too am led to join in the chorus. The movement of my limbs reminds me that I am blessed with good health. This temple that houses my spirit- my soul, should be cared for. And so I walk some more!

This year I joined a strength and conditioning class offered through my school district. This poster in our workout area serves as motivation on those days that I feel stretched and body parts hurt. The truth is, I am not sure I love it but I’m hooked! My body needs it. We spur each other on to the stronger version of ourselves. No pain, no gain!

I do prefer the outdoors. This year I also discovered pickleball. I’ve played a bit of tennis in the past but fell in love with this new found rave very quickly. Still a newbie at this, my goal is to make this a regular part of my weekly activities. Here we get to laugh at ourselves while moving those muscles.

Getting older is inevitable. How we do it is entirely up to us. While we can, let’s move a little. The benefits are boundless. Improved bone density, memory and balance. Great mood enhancer and stress reliever. We might even sleep better and build our immune system. I am all for trusting God with this body of ours but I also believe we are called to steward this vessel as best we can. We leave the impossible to God.
