The Things I Do

Daily writing prompt
List five things you do for fun.

Arguably, one of the most amazing gift we have been given in life is the gift of choice. We can do what ever we choose to do with our time. A wise king once said to the young, ‘Young people, it’s wonderful to be young! Enjoy every minute of it. Do everything you want to do; take it all in. But remember that you must give an account to God for everything you do’ (Ecclesiastes 11:9). To the old he penned ,’When people live to be very old, let them rejoice in every day of life. But let them also remember there will be many dark days’ (Vs. 8). It seems like to everything in life there is a ‘caution’. Often it seems like someone is out there trying to throw ‘cold water’ on what I choose to do. The older I get, however, the more I understand that boundaries are frequently set for my safety. Some one knows more than I do. So after 5 decades, I’ve learned to have fun without the painful consequences.

It’s a big beautiful world with much to enjoy without destroying our body, mind and soul. Here are five of mine:

‘Our gifts- enjoy them’
  • Hanging with my boys. Never a dull moment! Those of us who still have our children with us – consider this a blessing we should never take for granted.
  • Doing anything or nothing with my besties! In a harsh world of lonely people, God gives us friends to sweeten the moments
‘Take me there’
  • I’m not a huge fan of flying very long distances, but I do love to get away. Go somewhere! Discover another piece of God’s green earth.
‘I like to move it, move it!’🎶
‘With old friends or new’
  • Move – do something, anything! Your body will thank you in surprising ways. I have no problem lazing away the days, however, I do enjoy playing . Whether it’s with the ‘young and restless’ or the ‘seasoned and trying’.
‘Water – My liquid love’
  • Give me that moment in time when I hear the sound of water, smell the ocean breeze, watch its fluid motion, and melt away all my cares. As tempestuous as it might be at times, there’s something about water that seeps into your soul to bring a calm that’s hard to describe. Take me there!
