How to sleep. The story is told of an elderly lady in a war torn area, who went to sleep peacefully, amidst the dropping of bombs. When asked how she was able to this, she commented that God ‘does not slumber nor sleep’. If God is awake it made no sense for her to stay up. O the number of hours we’ve wasted tossing and turning- accomplishing nothing, but increased anxiety. The gift of sleep is a precious one, so let’s treasure it.

“You will not be afraid when you go to bed, and you will sleep soundly through the night.” -Proverbs 3:24-

Recently I did a quick poll in my adult ed classroom. More than 75% of the class had a problem sleeping. Statistics have shown that a large percentage of the US population suffer from sleep disorders. That which was given to us to replenish and restore our body and mind, evades too many for too long. No wonder we have diminished memories and newly coined conditions that plague us unendingly. We then resort to medications that continue to destroy our organs. There’s a reason our bodies yearn for sleep. Our depleted mental, physical and emotional energy can only be restored in a state of rest. It’s difficult to give what we don’t have. By God’s design, we were meant to sleep peacefully. Not worry endlessly!

“I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.” – Psalm 4:8-
