Can’t Stop the Birds From Flying…

Daily writing prompt
What is the last thing you learned?

This week I battled with a thought that kept swirling around my head. A thought that had to do with my personal desires. However, I had no hunger or thirst for it to be accomplished that way. My struggle was, ‘Is this a God thing, a ‘me’ thing or a seed planted from the enemy of my soul?’ The thought in and of itself was not necessarily sinful. It’s just that I didn’t envision God taking that route in my life and I didn’t want that either. That bird fluttered around my head space and invited others to join. Where did those birds come from? That’s a conversation for another time.

Guard your thoughts’

They flew around my head for a day or two. They became a bit intrusive when I became quiet. I was intentional about not giving them space and decided I will outlast the annoyance the only way I knew how. My weapon had to be different. The word of God has never failed to do what it was sent to do. I reflected on what I know about God’s ways from His word and from past experiences. The conclusion was, that’s not God’s way. Those birds had to go. They were not allowed to make a nest in my head. I identified them as lies and called them out. Although the thought was pointing to a good thing – it wasn’t a God thing.

  1. Well done, RH! And thank you for sharing 2 Corinthians 10:5 in The Message. Eugene Peterson sheds new, worthwhile light on that “take every thought captive” instruction!
