Day 28 – Music on My Play List #bloganuary2022
“Where words fail, music speaks.” Hans Christian Anderson
My fellow countryman, Bob Marley, in one of his songs said, “One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain.” There is some truth to that. I have found however that music can take you to some places – sometimes to painful places. Painful memories. It can invite a certain presence in your space- change your atmosphere.
With that in mind, I am ever conscious of what I allow in my space- mentally or emotionally. I intentionally guard my peace.

As a teenager in college, I remember a dorm mate of mine who would play every heart break song when she had boyfriend problems. Her room would be dark, and that auto-reverse tape recorder would play those songs over and over. Members Only- 1985. Remember that? I heard it so many times that year. That’s music that sustains and maintains pain. Not sure if too much of that is healthy.
Members only, it's a private party Don't need no money to qualify Don't bring your checkbook, bring your broken heart 'Cause it's members only tonight
So, do I have a play list? Not really – it depends on the day and the place I want occupy that day.
I teach virtually – Sometimes for 6 hours. In the background I play instrumental piano or saxophone. I’m convinced there’s sax in heaven! This keeps me calm and centered – my students love to listen when they are doing individual work. Much like dreams, without music life would be bland – tasteless.
Memories on the “Members Only” I remember those parties when Members Only came on at the end of the night, it was time to “lock-down with your significant other 😆.”
