Eyes Opened

‘ The Eye – Orlando’

Yesterday I rode ‘The Eye’ – 400ft up. There was beauty to be seen from a different vantage point. While on another ride a few months ago, a lady beside me said, “You can’t see the beauty with your eyes closed.” There were parts of the ride where I had closed my eyes while screaming like a crazy girl! We often miss the moments when we close our eyes literally or figuratively.

Whatever lens you’re looking through today – keep them clear and clean. Open your eyes, open your heart. There’s still much beauty to be seen and experienced in this world that can be so harsh at times . Today I am thankful for I all I get to see when I open the eyes of my heart. When I am intentional about seeing the good in those that are hard to love , I begin to love from a different place. Trying to see the best in the worst of situations forces me to a place of gratitude. This where we find ourselves coming up higher. It really does look different when we open our eyes from a higher altitude.

Hardened scales
Rivers of tears
Clouds my vision
Foggy lens
Vision impaired

Can’t trust what I think I see
Scared to open my eyes
Give me a glimpse
From Your vantage point
Let me see what You see

Maybe then
I’ll forgive quicker
Love a little harder
Be a bit more gracious
Less judgmental

Take me up higher
Where I can see
The bleeding broken hearts
Hidden under cloaks of pretense
Open the eyes of my heart

Open my eyes to see
the wonderful truths in your instructions.
Keep me from lying to myself;
give me the privilege of knowing your instructions
You made me; you created me.
Now give me the sense to follow your commands.

Psalm 119: 18, 29,73 (NLT)

****I shared these thoughts with some friends this morning. Maybe those in our writing community may appreciate a bit of what was going on in my heart and mind earlier.

  1. Wise words here, RH. I too want to look for the good in challenging people and the positive in difficult circumstances. As your third verse suggests, life will offer much more satisfaction when we do!
