Today’s Melody

I truly appreciate song writers who touch the soul with their lyrics. Words that often echo what you wanted to say but couldn’t. Songs that wake you up and remind you of your ‘why’. Those that redirect your thoughts to the greatness of the God we claim to worship. We are prone to forget who He is and whose we are when life is ‘lifing’. Like me , you may have your ‘stuck in traffic’ favorite jam or your ‘not today devil’ battle cry. Sometimes it’s the melody for those intimate moments when you sense Christ sitting in the passenger seat and He just wants to talk. Then there are those alone times when you need inspiration to push through – to vacuum, fold the laundry, and clean out the garage. I love music. It truly does something to the soul- whether for good or bad.

Recently while driving home through a construction zone, I calmed self by listening intently to two songs I’ve always heard just in passing. One made me smile and nod in agreement. It expressed some profound truth. The other was a prayer of my heart.

Profound Truths [Looking Up- Sidewalk Prophets/Megan Danielle]:

🎶There’s a long list of roads to rock bottom
Just a handful of ways to climb out
Yeah, I’ve been hit with some punches
Strong enough to make Superman’s knees hit the ground
Some things will make you start praying
Whether you believe in God or not
If you get low enough
You’ll start looking
up🎶

A Prayer of my heart [Money Can’t Buy – Cochrane &Co]:

🎶Wake me up
From this slumber that I’m in
Take me up
To a brand-new horizon
Oh Lord, give me eyes to see
That what I need don’t cost a thing
You fill my life
With somethin’ money can’t buy
I’m done chasin’ after gold
Rip the price tag off my soul
You fill my life
With somethin’ money can’t buy
🎶

What’s on your playlist today? May it feed more than your feelings. I pray it connects you to the deeper places in your heart – take you into spaces where you begin to become all you were created to be.

Sing a new song to the LORD, for he has done wonderful deeds. His right hand has won a mighty victory; his holy arm has shown his saving power! Shout to the LORD, all the earth; break out in praise and sing for joy! Sing your praise to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and melodious song…Make a joyful symphony before the LORD, the King! Let the sea and everything in it shout his praise! Let the earth and all living things join in.[Excerpt – Psalm 98 NLT]

*** Thanks for reading – Sing a song today! It does a soul good.
