Today was the first day of the 2025-2026 school year for our students in my neck of the woods. The entire school district wore this t-shirt today. Don’t you just love ‘Day Ones’? The opportunity to start anew, a chance for a do over. We don’t always get a second chance to steer the ship in another direction, but when we do we – it can be pure joy. This is a quote from one of our district admin –
There’s something powerful about day one. It sets the tone, builds the energy, and creates the culture that will carry us through the entire year.
Maybe today you are hoping for another ‘Day One’. Recent events may have sapped your energy, stole your joy, and maybe dimmed your vision. I believe every time we get to wake up in our right minds, every time we get to say ‘sorry’, and to recalibrate we can choose to make it a ‘Day One’. Even after 1000 falls- if we can rise again, try again, love again, forgive again, and walk again – I dare to say we’ve been blessed with a ‘Day One’.
So don’t fold up or throw in the towel just yet, I pray today or maybe tomorrow will be your ‘Day One’. A day when you will begin to envision the rest of your life to be the best of your life. So go find that one last fight in you, find your shine – buy the t-shirt and dare to create your own ‘Day One’. Then light the fire in another.
“For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. [Isaiah 43:19]
Indeed, good advice!

You might recall I taught elementary school for 26 years. The start of a new school year always caused excitement, joy, and hope. It was a delight to begin afresh, meet new students, and greet with hugs the former ones who returned to say hello. Blessings, RH, as you embark on another year of not only teaching, but providing a positive influence upon your students!
