My Piece of the Garden

Daily writing prompt
What do you love about where you live?

A few weeks ago, I spent a few days with my son in his big city high-rise apartment. There was no balcony, no way to connect the outside. There were moments I felt trapped. I mentioned it to him and he laughed. That was his world and he was at peace with it. In those moments, I pulled the blinds and sat on the window ledge. For the first time, I realized how addicted I am to the outside. Nature has become my lifelong companion.

‘I breathe – I see You in all Your Glory’

So, what do I love about where I live? Many things – especially the ease of access to the sight and sounds of nature. I get to open my windows and doors and with two steps I am connected to the outside. My back porch open to God’s breathtaking creation. I can hear and see the birds enjoying all that has been provided for them. There is much to remind me of God’s providential care for His children.

“Look at the birds: they do not plant seeds, gather a harvest and put it in barns; yet your Father in heaven takes care of them! Aren’t you worth much more than birds?” ( Matthew 6:26)

Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad;
let the sea resound, and all that is in it.
Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them;
let all the trees of the forest sing for joy. (Psalm 96:11-12 NIV)

“The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature, and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be.” ( Anne Frank)
