The Remarkable Kind

Daily writing prompt
What brings you peace?

As a sister girl, the word ‘submission’ can be disconcerting. Why? Your guess is just as good as mine. Maybe it’s because, like many, I hate feeling like a caged bird. It could also be what I’ve observed in human behavior when some are granted power. For some reason, me submitting to you quickly translates into abuse, oppression and a laundry list of other toxic behaviors.

Now, on my faith journey I discovered a different kind of submission. This kind brings warmth and calm. Getting there hasn’t been easy – it required a shift in my thinking. Now this submission is for my safety. The One I am submitting to has always had my best interest at heart. I never have to second guess His intentions towards me. ‘His plans are always for my good’ as they are for His greater glory. ‘He plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’

So in my quest for peace, I found it in a place of quiet submission. I am learning to lay my weapons down when asked to. Finally understanding that not every war supports my destiny. Or deserves my attention , even when it gets loud and frightening. This kind of posture has kept me grounded and unmoved in the midst of chaos. That I think is the most remarkable kind of peace – the one that ‘surpasses human understanding’. I should have or could have lost it all, but here I am still standing. I found much peace in my submission to God’s way. This peace does not require quiet. For even as the winds howl and the storm rages – this peace is still there.

  1. Isn’t it amazing that in the midst of turmoil, pain, hurt, discouragement, and more we can actually experience PEACE, because God is with us and he’ll see us through. Hallelujah! You’re right–submitting to him is the most freeing thing we can do!
