I love our fighting spirit. Our can-do attitude. Our resilience. When asked, we’re always up for wholesome competition. A nation of less than 3 million and smaller in size than every state except two (DE, RI), Jamaica is the ‘little engine that could’. Out of approximately 195 countries in the world, we are 160th in size. If you challenge us, we’ll try it. Just bring it on. Win, lose or draw – we’re always up for the challenge. Loud and proud with a winning smile.

Bobsled. We’ve never had an inch of snow. You don’t need to understand our why. It doesn’t need to make sense to the rest of the world. We don’t have to win; just showing up is fun😄. The black, green and gold speaks of fight, grit, and audacity. The unshrinking spirit we possess is often misunderstood. Just when you think we’re down at the last count – we get back up again. In the words of Bob Marley , ‘Dem a go tired fi see mi face, but can’t get me out of the race.’

In the recent 2025 Track and Field World Championship in Tokyo, we walked away with 10 medals. Only the US (26) and Kenya (11) tallied more than we did. For a small country of less than 4,300 square miles, we still boasts the fastest and 3rd fastest man at 100m. You may also guess we still hold the 2 fastest times at 200m for men along with the 2nd and 3rd fastest woman at 100m and 200m.

We even dared to step on American soil to win the coveted trophy on ‘The Voice’ with our lovely Tessanne Chin. Our blood runs through American politics, education, music, hospitality, healthcare, commerce, religion and then some. We have even snatched a few titles as beauty queens – four times Miss World and a few runners up in Miss Universe. What have we not tried? BTW, our own little 12 -year-old Jody Anne Maxwell made history as the first and to date the only non-American to win the prestigious Scripps Spelling Bee competition. We are not afraid to walk into the room or sit at the table. Don’t invite us if you are not up for good wholesome competition. At the end of it all, we’ll still embrace you with the sweetest spirit and the loudest laughter. No problem man, no problem!!

The Jamaican National Anthem
Eternal Father bless our land,
Guard us with Thy Mighty Hand,
Keep us free from evil powers,
Be our light through countless hours.
To our Leaders, Great Defender,
Grant true wisdom from above.
Justice, Truth be ours forever,
Jamaica, Land we love.
Jamaica, Jamaica, Jamaica land we love. [First verse]

National Pledge
Before God and all mankind, I pledge the love and loyalty of my heart, the wisdom and courage of my mind, the strength and vigor of my body in the service of my fellow citizens; I promise to stand up for Justice, Brotherhood and Peace, to work diligently and creatively, to think generously and honestly, so that Jamaica may, under God, increase in beauty, fellowship and prosperity, and play her part in advancing the welfare of the whole human race.
Who I am today – my fight, my unwillingness to back away from anything that challenges my purpose or my destiny – is undoubtedly hinged to much of what I breathed in from the land of my birth. I’ll be forever grateful that God is His sovereignty planned it that way.
****Thanks for stopping by.
