Girlfriends. Don’t do life without them. February 13th has been dubbed Gallentine’s Day – “a day for women to celebrate their friendships with their female friends”. It’s not an anti-Valentine scheme rather it’s in the spirit of celebrating the women in our lives. Our sisters, mothers, grandmas, aunts, cousins, and day ones. The ones who show up in our dark places, carry us when we have no strength to walk. Patiently listen as we speak from those painfully vulnerable places. They dry tears, crawl into the bed with us, drag us kicking and screaming to places where we can breathe again. Through the years, we’ve come to see why God planned it this way – the interlocking of our hearts and life.

As we navigate life’s ever changing seasons, along with God, they are often our only constant. Children leave to spread their wings, spouses may pass on, careers may end, but our friendships stand like solid rocks. It is not uncommon for us to lose touch as we jump over the speed bumps of life. For some reason when we reconnect ( as we often do), it seems like no time has passed. Our laughter becomes the balm that soothes our wounded and weary inner self. It revives and energizes us to continue pushing through.

Today and always, I celebrate my cheerleaders, confidantes, ride-or-dies, sisters from another mister. Your quirkiness, eccentricities, and unique ways makes life a beautiful ride. You add flavor, color, and light to what could have been a dull life. Thanks for giving of yourselves so freely and generously. I’ll do this ride with you in every lifetime.🎶It’s so amazing to be loved [ and to love]🎶!
“Sweet friendships refresh the soul and awaken our hearts with joy, for good friends are like the anointing oil that yields the fragrant incense of God’s presence.” [ Proverbs 27:9 TPT]
Oh yes–praise God for the supportive, encouraging, wise, make-you-laugh friends that God brings our way. Some were for a season, some have been for decades. Thank you for writing such a fitting tribute, RH, in celebration of the close, female relationships we’re privileged to enjoy!
