Bloganuary 2023: Prompt Day #19- What color describes your personality and why?
At the end of the Christmas holiday, I got this intense desire to change the color scheme in my bedroom to include yellow. Except for a car, I pretty much love yellow as a color choice for many things. There’s something about yellow that brings light and life to a space. It is said that yellow is associated with friendship, happiness, joy, optimism, and often give rise to feelings of cheerfulness. Some say it also represents the joy and presence of God as with fire. Some sources also mention a dark side to yellow. We will leave that for another time. The truth is it is part of the human condition to battle darkness from time to time – even in our own selves.
I’d like to think that yellow represents who I strive to be daily – to bring light and ‘life’ with me where ever I go. More than once, my students have said ‘there’s something about this class’. I intentionally set the tone in my classroom – it becomes a place of hope, where my students feel safe. A place where they can be their best self or strive for that. Everyone has a voice and is heard; everyone matters. On my darkest days, I choose never to dim my light in front of my students – never easy, it takes effort.

It has been one of my life goals to choose to bring out the best in those who come in my space. There is enough darkness around us, enough bad news to last a life time, and of lately enough depression to make you want to hide under a rock. As the light from the sun sometimes gets blocked by clouds, the difficult days do come. The days I don’t feel like ‘light and life’ – I don’t want to be an optimist neither do I feel like being friendly. These are the the days I remind myself who I am and whose I am. I have a heavenly Father who lights my way and validates me daily. I try to live my life from an overflow. What God pours in me flows out of me to others. If I am empty and lacking, it is often because I am disconnected from the source of light, hope and life. So, this day gives me another opportunity to be a light bearer. That’s what I choose to do today!
Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16

Indeed, “Everyone has a voice and is heard; everyone matters.” We are all a vessel, filled with love, to be poured. We all have a light, to shine in the darkness. Yes, it’s not easy, but needed, be a reflective light, shining! Blessings!
