January came, it did its thing and is now leaving. We await and welcome February. Some stats on world population indicated that in 2023, there are approximately 7,974 deaths per day in the US and about 330 per hour. If you are reading this in the US, you were blessed to not be a part that data set in January 2023. So, how was January? No doubt some of us would rather forget it, others celebrate it, and some took it in strides.
As it signifies in many ways, the start of something new – some woke up to the ‘same ole same ole’ these last 31 days. A new chapter started, possibly with some things and people missing from the pages. These pages brought laughter for some and tears for many. Some of us would love to turn back time and correct a wrong done or some hurtful words spoken, but sadly we can’t. Hence, we move forward. We express gratitude that despite it all we are numbered among those who made it.

A friend of mine sent me this recent picture of the rolling hills of my island nation. If you can see this, imagine it or touch something like this – you are blessed. Wherever you are, take a minute to look up and out, there’s something astounding out there for you to appreciate. As we say goodbye to January, reflect what went right and grab hold of the lessons learned from what went wrong.
Ode to January
Some would rather forget you
You brought unwelcomed harshness
Others would love you to stay
You brought many treasured gifts
If you could, you would
You would bring continuous laughter and joy
Make the minutes unforgettable
Fill the pages with immeasurable satisfaction
You would, but you couldn’t
The assignment required you to bring the perfect blend
Pain and pleasure – laughter and tears
You gave some and took some
The blossoms and the prickly thorns
The bitter and the sweet
Night and day, cold and heat
The wonderful mix called life
***Thanks for reading – glad you made it!
