Like many there are days we need a calm for our anxious hearts. Unanswered questions, uncertain tomorrows, wearisome delays — no end in sight. We wonder why we are assigned so many mountains to climb. Glancing across at our fellow men, we may be tempted to speculate why their journey appear so much easier. You are not alone. A child of God called Jeremiah found himself in a similar mental quandary. He lamented, “LORD, you always give me justice when I bring a case before you. So, let me bring you this complaint: Why are the wicked so prosperous? Why are evil people so happy?” [ Jeremiah 12] We often forget that things are not always what they seem to be. Anxiety has a way of intensifying when take our eyes off our own race. We can easily veer off the road we are graced to travel when we start to focus on other people’s journey. Stay in your lane.
It’s in our nature to question the load we are called to carry. Certainly, if we could, many of us would have attempted to choose otherwise. There are times when I have sighed, ‘Lord, this is not the path I would have chosen’. I often chuckle at my little finite mind negotiating with the Omniscient One. The One who knows the end from the beginning—the infallible One. The who knows my breaking point and will never give me more than I’m equipped to handle. If He does, that’s because He’s going to do it Himself. I’m merely a conduit— a vessel used to His will. This Father knows the nature of His children and sent a reminder for us to be anxious about nothing [ Philippians 4: 6-7]. Nothing?? Yea— me too. I ponder that. How’s that even possible? In those same verses, we are given instructions how to navigate this. I confess I’m still learning. There are days when I feel I’ve made giant steps forward only to take two steps backwards the next day. Today I speak to this heart of mine:
O restless heart of mine .
Find joy in the Lord
Not in things that are fleeting
Here today – gone tomorrow
Avoid the companionship of anxiety and despair
Worrying drains today of its joys
Robs tomorrows of its hopes
Talk to your Father instead
Let praise shape your worries in prayer
Stay in a place of peace
Let it anchor you -guard you
As the storms rage
As doubts assail
Know that He who holds you closely
Calms the deadliest storms –only be still
***Thanks for reading- Stay in peace.
