What we call people is most likely hinged to our connection or relationship with them. I often read or listen to people referring to God in different ways. It is quite possible that we also speak of Him based on how we relate to Him. Because of what I’ve discovered and experienced with God, I could never relegate Him to a mere ‘higher power’ or ‘whoever you conceive Him to be’ or ‘the Man upstairs’. No judgement here -our journey may be different. I get that some may just be acquainted with His acts from a distance. I met His heart and His love. So I call Him Father:

You, LORD, are [my] Father. [I am] nothing but clay, but You are the potter who molded [me].
Isaiah 64:8 (CEV)

I prefer Poppa as it is much more loving and intamite. Father seems formal

I tend to use Father as well. Sometimes Papa, sometimes Abba. Sometimes Lord. I’m still learning healthy attachment, so while Father does seem a bit formal to me, it kind of characterizes how I feel about our relationship.
