You are Some of My Favorites

We were not meant to be an island. I love this writing prompt -‘ Who are Your Current Most Favorite People?’ This brings a smile to my face. I have many favorites including the obvious – my children (biological and bonuses), siblings, and parents. I have also been equally blessed with some amazing friends and students. Lately however, there’s a group of crazies that have been added to my group of ‘favorites’. Amazingly we connected over 40 years ago in that wonderful training ground called high school. We call it the ‘school on the hill’, ‘blue and gold nation’ among other names. We are a special kind from a special school and a special year group. The Class of ’83!

As we come near to the end of 2023, I salute this group totaling over 140 plus who keep in touch daily. There are the deep thinkers, the analytical ones, the jokesters, the encouragers, the supporters, the uplifters, the seekers, the dreamers, the builders, the teachers, the creatives, the troublemakers, the nightwalkers, daydreamers and so much more – a place for everyone. 2023 came with amazing wins and painful losses. We’ve had the opportunity to support each other through it all. We celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, national recognitions, and even our high school being crowned nationwide soccer champions – the list goes on. We were also there at the funerals showing up in the tough times. Here’s what some had to say:

I love what Dane said, ‘We started at the same place. Life took us in different directions and brought us back together at this special season in our lives’. I believe there’s a greater purpose for our coming together. Only time will tell. Cecelia penned this from her heart: ‘ I can never see Class of 83 as a WhatsApp group. For me it is my safe space where I can always find support, entertainment and all I need to brighten my day.’ As Donna always reminds us, ‘Best year group ever!!’ As for me, some of my favorite people in this whole wide world- now and always. I’d like to think that God did a miraculous thing over 4 decades ago. It is often said that God does nothing without a purpose. We’re here for the ride to see what unfolds. For my favorites, I think you can agree with me when I say – ‘the best is yet to come!’
