What Now

‘What Lies Beyond…’

Have you ever wondered if God sees the ‘New Year’ the way we see it? If you are on this faith walk with God, you’ve probably noticed that He does things in His own time. This often frustrates us until we learn that He’s never in a hurry and it’s not a cliché -He’s always on time. It’s a few days into the new year and maybe you’re wondering ‘what now’. You’re footing doesn’t seem very sure and the horizon probably looks cloudy. You’re waiting for that ‘haha moment’. You’re not hearing that ‘still small voice’. Still waiting for the needle on the compass to move in a clear direction.

Last night my friend and I were at one of those large theme parks. We had an app that should help to guide us to our location. We expected it to be interactive but it showed no sign of movement. We ignored the app, asked for directions from employees and started walking. What we didn’t know was it functions only when we start to move. There was nothing wrong with the app. We looked at it a few minutes later and noticed it was moving but only when we moved. As I encourage myself, I encourage you – just keep moving. Keep doing the last thing you were instructed to do. And do it well.

The music may sound different this year and you are uncomfortable with this new rhythm. Be open to the new season – God’s dream for you may look different than what you expected. Surrender and release your dreams and expectations to Him. Value and esteem His grand design by saying yes to His way – even in the uncomfortable. We are invited to come closer to Him. We hear those quiet whispers from that ‘still small voice’ best, when we quiet those distracting noises and move closer.

My prayer for all of us as echoed by the Apostle Paul :

” [May He] strengthen [us] by his Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength—that Christ will live in [us] as [we] open the door and invite Him in. And I ask Him that with both feet planted firmly on love, [we’ll] be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God. God can do anything —far more than [we] could ever imagine or guess or request in [our] wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, His Spirit deeply and gently within us.” ( Ephesians 3:14-20 MSG)

Be reminded this year that success looks different to God. I pray we’ll come up higher – to that place where we can begin to see what He sees. His ‘dream’ and plans for us are far more than we can ask or think. Trust His hand and His heart.

Rhythms

Unsure – I lean in
Straining to hear You
Uncomfortable in the silence
Pondering the ‘what now’
Where next
What if

The punctuations
The question marks
Will it be a period
A comma
I come close
Near Your breast
To hear Your heartbeat
May the rhythm of my heart
Be one with Yours

  1. Pretty sure he does not view the passing of years the same way we do, since he exists outside of (and created) time. In his sight, 1,000 years is like a day.

Jesus told us each day has enough trouble of its own. I find that to be quite true. How about you?
