The First Time

Daily writing prompt
What’s your favorite month of the year? Why?

Not sure I have a favorite month. However, if I were to choose one, it would be the month I took my first breath outside the womb. December. The month the world and I first said hello. I’m sure it was cool and quite festive. Most people were probably in a good mood with a sense of quiet bliss as they prepared for the holiday season. I was first introduced to the world in a country where Christmas celebrations started early.

Dear December:

Because of you I met a world filled with lights and beauty. People were kinder and happier. The sounds of joyful music filled the air. The smell of spices and flavors of all kinds wafted past my innocent nose. I am sure my mom was happy to be gifted with me before the real celebrations began. Laughter echoed through my home – children everywhere danced around with boundless energy. The world was indeed a beautiful mix of jubilation and delightful expectation. This was my world. December – You brought this to me, the first time we met. A time when we embraced ‘peace on Earth and goodwill to all men’.

Then you left. A new reality set in. You had me fooled. With no warning, the world suddenly looked different. I was met with a new normal. I am still in love with you as you’ll always be my first. You still tickle me when you come around. Sometimes I get giddy with joy and unending laughter. When you’re here, even for one moment in time the world looks and smells better. I often wish you’d never leave, but we don’t live in a perfect world, do we?
It’s never the same when you go. You’ll forever be my December to remember. The month the world first saw me.

‘Yours Always’
