Seasons Change

This week I heard a song for the first time and it piqued my interest somewhat – ‘A Different Kind of Christmas’ by Mark Shultz. I thought the lyrics were quite touching and probably resonated with a lot of people this year. This season might look different for a variety of reasons – a seat at the table may be empty, change in marital status, empty nest syndrome, illnesses, migration, relocation or just a different mindset. For some of us, our roles have shifted a little. Christmas may just be a little different this year. Our principal’s secretary sent us this in an email this week:

‘ Embrace Your Season’

I was never a Santa Claus kinda girl, but I get the gist. Seasons change and there is truly a time for everything. If you are like me, you try to maximize the moments and make the best of whatever may come your way. Change is inevitable. I think someone said ‘ I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails…’ That requires a shift in perspective and bit of gratitude. Is it the glass half full, or half empty? Is it just okay to have something in the glass?

Wherever you are today, whatever season you may be in – find a reason to make the most of it. Rock the stages of life well! They don’t last forever. This song reminds me why I celebrate this season. Regardless of the stage or season I’m in – the reason I celebrate remains the same. I get to do it another year in the palm of the hands of a loving Heavenly Father. For this I am grateful – even if it looks different this year.

Wherever you are, no matter how far
Come back to the heart, the heart of Christmas
Live while you can, cherish the moment
The ones that you love, make sure they know it
Don’t miss it, the heart of Christmas

‘The Heart of Christmas’ Matthew West

***Thanks for reading – ‘Enjoy your season’.

  1. I think I’m now Santa Claus. I hope I never get to the phase where I look like Santa Claus 🤣. You’re so right though, life changes and we need to change our perspective, but not our core values, from time to time.
