This past week part of my high school graduating class came together after 40 years. It was something almost ‘other worldly’. Many of us hadn’t seen nor heard from each other in decades. What amazed me the most was how easy it was to reconnect. Sure we had grown up (somewhat😊), but the child in us certainly came alive for those moments. We laughed, played, made a fool of ourselves, and that was all fine. We are who we are! Time may have mellowed us a bit, but at heart we are still those kids from the ‘Blue and Gold’ nation.

I plan to capture some of these special slices of time soon –after I get some sleep and my mind awakens from vacay mode. For now- from my heart to yours:
The way you make me feel
That thing you awaken in me
How your smile lightens today’s load
That special thing you do
That makes you simply you
Goodbye will never be easy
A sweet bitter pain
Washes over me
Each time the minutes count down
If I could make the sun stand still
I’d freeze this moment in time
Breathe in its fragrance
For now I gladly hold
The memory of you
Etched in my mind
Painted on the landscape of my heart
Like a beautifully woven tapestry
You are entwined in parts of me
From that moment in time
When purpose and destiny crisscrossed
You and I became connected
When Divinity and humanity collided
We became this special thing
Little did we know
This would span the decades
Today we as we separated
We found it hard to say goodbye

***Thanks for reading – Maybe we should just say… ‘so long!’

I’ve never returned to my alma mater for a reunion. For too long we lived too far away. But I’m so glad you enjoyed such a positive experience with “the kids from the Blue and Gold Nation.” Funny thing about that: those were our colors too! In fact, as the first class to graduate from the new high school in town, we were given the opportunity to vote on our colors and mascot, which contributed to our sense of ownership and pride, I think. That first year there were only freshman and sophomores; the juniors and seniors were allowed to finish at the old high school. It was a unique and fun experience for our class to be “upperclassmen” for three years!

We flew in from as far away as Africa, Europe, and Asia to be there. We are a special bunch indeed. Don’t know what was in the water that year we met, but it sure got us hooked together for life. 😊
