Carried

After dinner on Thanksgiving day, the adults had a couple hours of ‘grown folks’ conversation. It was good! A couple who was present at the table shared a part of their story. The husband commented on the fact that he loved his wife since high school, but she was in another space and didn’t reciprocate. He was just her friend. Years later they connected after he had left the country. Their lives took a different trajectory, but love always finds a way. For them it did.

Time, space and divine intervention worked in perfect sync to bring them back together. Still for her heart it was a journey. She made a comment that grabbed my heart, ” His loved carried us .” She explained that it took a minute for her heart to get there. His love was stubborn and patient. Refusing to be deterred by the perceived obstacles. Today she thanks him as she looked back at their journey. Their beautiful amazing love story can only be penned today because his loved carried them until her heart caught on.

‘So I wonder if that’s how God’s love is. That stubborn love that won’t let me go.’

Have you ever had to love in the toughest of time? Love when it tore you to pieces? Love when you’re misunderstood? Love when no one wants to hear? No one wants to listen. Love when you go unseen and your heart struggles to contain the storm raging inside. Sometimes it’s a wayward child or a hard to love family member. Often it’s a parent whose heart has been scarred by their own reality- one you are just getting to understand. You guard yourself from their toxicity but your heart yearns for them to love you the way you love them. Maybe you’re fighting for your marriage. Watering what’s left of the parched soil that’s holding you together. You sense the life being sucked out of what was once a thing of beauty. Your heart cannot go on – so you continue to love from that hard place. Love like your heavenly Father loves. What kind of love remains so stubborn? Remains constant in the face adversity and even rejection. That kind of love that never tires – it carries you and stays when all else fails. That love never gives up. Believes all things and hopes when it makes no sense. May we all encounter that kind of love at least once in this lifetime.

***Thanks for reading- May you find that kind of love!

  1. What a sweet love story shared by your dinner guests, and what an insightful picture into the love our Shepherd possesses for each of his wayward lambs. His love does indeed carry us! P.S. Did you write that poem, “Can My Love Carry You?” It’s beautiful and communicates profound truth, including: “I found me when I found Him.” Amen!

    1. Isn’t it a beauty though? In this world where the love that God intended to connect man and wife is being attacked and watered down- this gives hope. Yes- I write all the poems I share here. Thanks for giving your insight- always appreciated.

      1. You write beautifully! ‘So I wonder if that’s how God’s love is. That stubborn love that won’t let me go.’ From my perception this is exactly how the love God has for all of His children except a gah-zillion times stronger then the love we even humanly know. A pure love so pure it’s too hard to comprehend in our human frailties. All He asks is that we just give him a lil love, our whole heart and love others. He is my lifeline. Thank you 🙏
