How do you do this? This was asked of me some years ago while I was walking through a very difficult season in my life. In the eyes of the observer, I appeared at peace and in total control. I smiled before I responded quite calmly, ‘ Only JESUS’. I know this may sound like an overused religious phrase. Something we utter to sound ‘righteous’. Or the phrase that gives me brownie points with Jesus and the church folks around me. If only this were true. When I said ‘Jesus’, I speak of the reason I stay sane in this insane world.

I took this picture of my son some years back while we were on vacation. It struck me then that even children need to find their place of calm at times. When we are feeling scattered and unhinged, it gets hard to function optimally. This world, all its trappings, uncertainties, and insidious ways can easily move us from a place of peace . Eventually causing a shift in our equilibrium, often for the worst. Long ago I discovered the need to guard my sanity. I found my safe place in Christ and all He offers. He has done an amazing job keeping me anchored, especially when the storms of life are raging.
The Many Ways
(You’ve Kept Me sane)
Sounds of nature’s music
The call of the ocean waves
Pitter patter of raindrops
Breathtaking mountain views
A whisper in Your ear
A sigh that gets noticed
That moment when I am seen
Kisses of a child
Tears that bring relief
Laughter that makes me forget
Love that comes and stays
Hope that makes it worth the while
Pleasure that awakes the inner me
Strength in weakness
Unexpected favors and forgiveness
Joy that cannot be explained
Silence amidst the noise
Finding me in You
You’ve kept me sane
He lets me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He renews my life; He leads me along the right paths for His name’s sake. Even when I go through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for You are with me…
Psalm 23:2-4 [HCSB}
Lovely share! Indeed, Only Jesus. We don’t have to prove it, always feel it, but if we believe it, our heart knows it! Blessings!
