Wednesday’s Wisdom

This morning I came across a clip on a post from ‘Turning Point’. It resonated so much with me – I think it’s worth repeating. This is a lesson I was taught a few years back as I discovered how we allow others to take us to unhealthy places. We give people permission to make us feel less than, question our sanity and rob us of our peace. Unless we set healthy boundaries, people can become stumbling blocks on the journey to our ‘promised land’. Ask Moses!

One of the most painful thing I have observed, however, is allowing people to cause us to stop loving. The speaker commented :

“Sometimes the people you help the most are the ones that hurt you the worst. ..One of the the things you have to guard against [is this]. You cannot stop loving simply because you are afraid that if you love, you’ll be hurt.”

Love even when it’s hard – when it makes no sense. Shelter your heart from the callous coldness that invites itself in, especially when it hurts. There is a balm for the cuts and bruises of the soul. One who restores the breaches and binds up the wounded heart.

Love never gives up…Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel….Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best, Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end. [1 Corinthians 13 MSG Extract]
