Still Standing

A former schoolmate of mine posted this picture and asked us to to title it. ‘Broken But Still Standing’. This was the thought that immediately came to mind as I looked at this house. This house that once was a home. Now broken, ignored, void of laughter and life, but still standing.

As we celebrate history and love this month, I can’t help but reflect on those who have given, loved, sacrificed and are now tired – worn. Sometimes forgotten. These past two years have taken a toll on many – many though young in body, life has crushed their spirit. Battered and bruised, they remain standing just because…

Caregivers who are numb to their own needs because of their love for an aged parent or special needs child. Mamas and papas sometimes running on empty for the sake of the call. Grandparents parenting again – trying to understand these Gen Zees using a Boomer mindset. That sister who finds it in her heart to forgive – yet again. That brother who struggles with insecurities – feeling marginalized, underappreciated and overlooked. Many times misunderstood. Those bearing the weight of their past while trying to navigate the present.

Broken but still standing. You show up, even while you are limping. You stumble at times because you are perfectly flawed. You may be bent over because the burdens overwhelm. The smiles at times are few and far between. You wonder when; when it will get better. Know this – We see you. We love you. We appreciate you. You are a wonder.

Beyond that, the One who loves you most sees you always. There will be a day. Trust that you will see ‘ the goodness of the Lord, in the land of the living’. Nothing about you goes unnoticed.

Hello broken and beautiful! Broken and scarred. Broken yet still standing.
