A Day Of Grace

‘He Stood By Me’

Let’s be honest; many are not the dads we wanted. They don’t all show up like this. We don’t all have these treasured, unforgettable moments with them. The memories are often the ones we want to forget. Marred with coldness, disconnection, lies, hurt, abuse, rejection and abandonment. Some tried, but even at their best they fell short in painful ways. So today, while many celebrate – others choose to extend grace. As the day draws to an end, for many , wounds were exposed again. Anger and unforgiveness were the battles some fought today. Then there were those who still chose to extend grace.

The Heart of a Son

You couldn’t give
What you didn’t have
I now understand
Somethings were hard for you
Fighting your own demons
You didn’t know

Someone bigger was there to fight for you

Your wounds went deep
Healing escaped you
You hemorrhaged
On those who needed you most
Maybe you didn’t know what to say
Words may have gotten in your way
I watch you from afar
Wilting away in your shrunken world

I fight not to become you
Praying I’ll do better
Be the father I didn’t see
My heart aches

Watching you bent in your trauma
Bottled up fears and tears
I see you
So today
I choose to forgive
I choose to be a cycle breaker
I choose to give grace

Happy Father’s Day to the cycle breakers. Never underestimate the power in forgiving and being forgiven. There’s always hope for healing and restoration. Never stop believing. Jesus said it best:

  1. Knowing the unmerited and undeserved grace that was (and still is) freely given to us, it is amazing that we find it so difficult to extend it others.😪 Lord help us🙏
